Nic dwa razy, Niets tweemaal
My babcia, Jadwiga, died when I was two years old. We met briefly, but I don’t remember her. In 2021 I saw, for the first time, photographs of her graduation work. She studied sculpture at the Academy of Art in Poznań. From that moment, I felt a strong desire to physically touch the works she had made sixty years earlier. When I traveled to the university archives in Poland, I discovered the sculptures had been destroyed.
In our family home in Poland, I found many books about plants and their healing powers. They revealed something about who Jadwiga was, and about the time she lived in. In the house, the garden, and the forest around it,
I felt a certain energy. I could still touch the plants and trees she had planted and cared for. By working with objects and materials that remained, something new unfolded.
